Sunnahs of Drinking

The Sunnahs of Drinking
1- Pronounce Tasmiyah: Say Tasmiyah before drinking.(I.e Bismil Allāh, in the name of Allah).
2-Drink with the right hand: as the Prophet (SAWW) said to
the kid: “say the bismalah and eat with your right hand.”(Muslim 2022)
Narrated Ibn Umar: “When one of you eat ,let him eat with right hand and when he drinks, let him drink with right hand because Shaytaan eats and drink with his left hand. (Muslim 2020)
3-Drink in Three breaths: Breath thrice while drinking; which means to take a sip then breath outside the pot then repeat this process
for three times as the Prophet (SAWW) used to do (narrated by Imam
Muslim)
Benefits of this Sunnah:
Drinking water in one gulp can cause choking of oesophagus. It  weakens the muscles and nerves. It is also harmful for the liver and stomach.
4- Do not breath in the vessel: Breath (exhale and inhale) outside of the drinking pot.
5- Drink in a sitting position: The Prophet (SAWW) said: “ none of you
should drink while standing”. (al Muslim 2024,2026)
Benefits of this Sunnah:
Drinking water whilst standing or walking can cause Gastrointestinal Tract (GIT) damage, kidney damage, arthritis, nerve tension and other disorders.
6-Say Tahmeed Allah after drinking: the Prophet (SAWW) said:
"Verily, Allah is pleased with his worshippers if they praise him after eating or after drinking ".( Muslim 2734)
The sum of the sunnahs of drinking would exceed twenty, and we should
notice drinks include all sorts of soft or hot drinks.
7-Don’t drink directly from the vessel: The Prophet (SAWW) forbade drinking from the mouth of the waterskin( in modern days we can say Jug, bottle, vessel or any container). Narrated by al-Bukhaari (5628) and Muslim (5629).
Benefits of this Sunnah:
If the water container is not transparent there may be an insect or any debris inside it which could cause harm or annoyance.
One may not be able to control the flow of water so the result could be in choking or wetting the cloths.
If one breaths in the vessel or drinks directly, there are chances of spreading germs or disease more-likely if others are sharing the same vessel.
